Official sources

Always download IPSW files from Apple's own servers. The two official entry points:

• Developer downloads — developer.apple.com/download lists restore images for every current beta (free Apple Account required).
• Finder / Apple Devices restore — connecting your device and choosing Restore fetches the latest signed stable IPSW automatically.

How to restore with an IPSW

1. 1Back up first

   A restore erases the device. Make an archived backup with Finder (macOS) or Apple Devices (Windows).

2. 2Download the IPSW for your exact model

   Each device model has its own firmware file. Double-check the model identifier in Settings > General > About before downloading.

3. 3Option-click Restore

   Connect the device, open Finder or Apple Devices, hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and click Restore, then pick the downloaded IPSW.

4. 4Wait for verification

   The computer verifies the firmware signature with Apple and installs it. Only builds Apple is still signing can be installed — old versions cannot.
