iCloud backups are great for convenience, but they get overwritten nightly. If you install a buggy beta, your "good" backup might be replaced by a "bad" beta backup.

Since iOS 16.4, the old configuration profiles are obsolete. You must now enroll your Apple ID directly with Apple.
For Public Beta, you need to sign up for the Apple Beta Software Program. It's free for everyone.
Go to beta.apple.comFor Developer Beta, you can use a free Apple Developer account (or paid for advanced features). This gets updates earlier.
Go to developer.apple.comNavigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.
Go back one screen. iOS 26 Beta will appear like a normal update. Tap "Download and Install".
An IPSW file allows you to completely wipe the system and install a fresh copy of iOS 26. This is the best method to fix persistent bugs, battery drain, or storage issues ("System Data" bug).
Download the specific .ipsw file for your device model from the Apple Developer Portal. Note: These files are large (7GB+).
Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Find My and turn off "Find My iPhone". You cannot restore a device with this enabled.
Connect iPhone to computer. In Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows), hold the specific key on your keyboard while clicking "Check for Update".
A file browser will open. Select the downloaded IPSW file. Your computer will verify the file with Apple and begin the clean installation.
If your device has been stuck on the Apple logo for >45 minutes, perform a Force Restart:
To remove iOS 26 and go back to iOS 25, you must enter Recovery Mode.
Used if Recovery Mode fails. Screen remains BLACK.
