Beta Profiles Every Apple beta, tracked live.

Apple retired beta profile files — today the iOS 27, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS betas are free for everyone with an Apple ID — beta profiles are no longer required. We track every new build the moment Apple ships it, host the IPSW firmware library, build free tools and keep device compatibility up to date — independently maintained since 2022.

Quick answer

Beta profiles were small configuration files that unlocked Apple betas from 2013 to 2023. In 2026 you no longer need one: the iOS 27, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS betas are free for any Apple ID via Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates — no profile file, no computer, no paid developer account. That’s how beta profiles work in 2026.

Do you still need a beta profile in 2026?

Short answer: no — and that's good news. Here's how getting Apple betas changed, and where this site fits in today.

2013 – 2023 · The profile era

Profiles unlocked betas

For a decade, installing a small beta profile file was the only way to receive pre-release iOS over the air. Sites like this one hosted those beta profiles for millions of testers.

2023 – today · Built into Settings

Your Apple ID is the profile now

Since iOS 16.4, Apple moved beta enrollment into Settings → Software Update → Beta Updates. Developer and public betas are free for any Apple ID — beta profiles gave way to a simple toggle.

IPSW for everything else

Clean installs, downgrades, recovery and older devices still rely on full firmware files. Our IPSW library tracks direct Apple CDN links and live signing status for every device.

How to get the iOS 27 Beta

The exact steps that replaced beta profiles. Works on iPhone 11 and later — same flow on iPad, Mac, Watch, TV and Vision Pro.

1

Back up your device

Create an iCloud backup (Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup) or an archived computer backup so you can roll back to stable iOS later.

2

Sign in with your Apple ID

Any free Apple ID works. You do not need the $99 developer membership to install betas.

3

Open Beta Updates

Go to Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates. This menu is what replaced profile files in 2023.

4

Choose iOS 27 Developer Beta

Pick iOS 27 Developer Beta — or the Public Beta once it opens (expected mid-July 2026) — then go back one screen.

5

Download and install

Tap Download and Install, stay on Wi-Fi and a charger, and let it finish. First boot takes a few extra minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people still ask about beta profiles, betas and IPSW — answered for 2026.

A beta profile was a small configuration file that, once installed, allowed an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV to receive pre-release Apple software over the air. From 2013 to 2023 it was the standard way to join Apple betas. Apple retired profile files in 2023 — beta enrollment is now built directly into Settings and linked to your Apple ID.
No. On iOS 16.4 and later, profile files no longer enable beta updates. To get the iOS 27 beta in 2026, you enroll through Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates with a free Apple ID. Profile files only remain relevant for some legacy devices stuck on much older software.
Back up your device, then open Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates and choose iOS 27 Developer Beta. Go back to Software Update and tap Download and Install. The whole process is free, over the air, and requires no computer and no profile file. Full walkthrough above on this page.
Yes. Since 2023, both the developer beta and the public beta are free for anyone with an Apple ID. The paid Apple Developer Program ($99/year) is only needed for publishing apps to the App Store, not for installing betas.
An IPSW file is Apple's complete firmware image for a specific device. Unlike over-the-air updates, it contains the entire operating system and is installed through Finder or iTunes. IPSW files are used for clean installs, recovering a failed update, and downgrading from a beta back to stable iOS. Browse our live IPSW library.
Early developer betas are the least stable builds of the cycle — expect app crashes, faster battery drain and occasional bugs. If your iPhone is your daily device, the safer path is the public beta or the final release in September. Always create a full backup before enrolling either way.
Yes, but not with a simple toggle. You connect the device to a computer, restore it in recovery mode using the latest signed stable IPSW, and then restore a backup made before you installed the beta. This erases the device, which is why backing up first matters so much. Check current signing status in the IPSW library.
No. Over-the-air enrollment through Settings requires no computer at all. A computer is only needed if you choose the IPSW route — for clean installs or downgrades — using Finder on a Mac or iTunes on Windows.
The developer beta ships first — iOS 27 Developer Beta 1 arrived on June 8, 2026, right after the WWDC keynote — and gets new builds earliest. The public beta follows a few weeks later (expected mid-July 2026) with more stability. Both are free; they differ only in timing and polish.
iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and every newer model, including iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) — 31 models in total, the same list as iOS 26. iPhone X, XS and XR are not supported. Apple Intelligence features additionally require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. See the full supported devices list.
