The catch behind the headline list

Who gets Apple Intelligence?

Making the support list gets you iOS 27 — but not necessarily its biggest feature. AI splits the lineup into three tiers.

Tier 1 · Advanced Siri AI

The full new Siri

The most powerful on-device models and the new Siri AI voices run only on the newest Pro-class silicon.

  • iPhone 17 Pro & 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone Air
Tier 2 · Apple Intelligence

The full AI feature set

Writing Tools, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence and AI Siri — needs an A17 Pro chip or better and 8 GB of RAM.

  • iPhone 15 Pro & newer (12 models)
  • iPad with M1 or later (A17 Pro on mini)
  • Every Apple silicon Mac
Tier 3 · Core iOS 27

Everything else

Older but supported devices get the full design and system update — faster performance, the redesign and new apps — minus the AI features.

  • iPhone 11 through 15 (non-Pro)
  • iPhone SE (2nd & 3rd gen)
  • No Apple Intelligence features

Compatibility questions

The most-asked questions about Apple OS 27 device support in 2026.

iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and every newer model, including iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) — 31 models in total, the same lineup as iOS 26. No iPhones were dropped this year. The minimum requirement is an A13 Bionic chip; iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR and older are not supported.
Yes. Unlike iOS 27, iPadOS 27 drops five older iPads: iPad mini (5th gen), iPad (8th gen), iPad Air (3rd gen), iPad Pro 11″ (1st gen) and iPad Pro 12.9″ (3rd gen). All other iPads that ran iPadOS 26 are supported — 23 models in total.
macOS 27 Golden Gate runs only on Apple silicon Macs — any Mac with an M1 chip or later, including the new MacBook Neo. Intel-based Macs are not supported, making this the first cycle where the entire Mac lineup is Apple silicon only.
watchOS 27 supports Apple Watch SE (3rd gen), Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3. It drops Apple Watch SE (2nd gen), Series 6, Series 7, Series 8 and the original Apple Watch Ultra. Updating also needs a paired iPhone 11 or later on iOS 27.
tvOS 27 supports the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, 2021) and Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 2022). It drops the Apple TV HD (2015) and the first-generation Apple TV 4K (2017).
Yes. Both Apple Vision Pro models — the original M2 version (2024) and the refreshed M5 version (2025) — support visionOS 27. No hardware was dropped.
Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer (A17 Pro chip, 8 GB RAM) — 12 models. The most advanced on-device AI and new Siri AI voices are limited to iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. On iPad it needs an M1 chip or later (A17 Pro on iPad mini); on Mac, every Apple silicon Mac running macOS 27 qualifies.
No. iOS 27 requires an iPhone 11 or later (A13 Bionic or newer). iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR stay on their last supported iOS version and do not receive iOS 27.
