Compatibility Checker

Can I Update? Check Your Apple Device

Pick your exact model and get a straight answer: whether it runs this year's beta, whether it gets Apple Intelligence, and what its last supported version is.

Select a model above and the answer appears here — no page reload, nothing sent anywhere.

How This Check Works

Two questions decide the answer, and they are not the same question. The first is whether Apple still ships the current release to your model at all. The second is whether your model's chip clears the bar for Apple Intelligence, which sits well above the compatibility floor — on iPhone that means an A17 Pro or later, on iPad an M-series chip or the A17 Pro, and on Mac any Apple silicon. A device can be fully supported and still never show a single Apple Intelligence feature.

Everything above runs in your browser from a list built into this page. Nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and the check works the same whether you are on the device in question or looking it up for someone else. The data comes from the same source as our 80 device pages, so the answer here and the answer there can never drift apart.

If your model is not on the supported list, no file changes that. Beta profiles stopped existing in 2023, and even before then a profile only revealed betas your hardware already qualified for — it never unlocked an unsupported device. The compatibility check happens in the installer itself, against the device model.

What to Do With the Answer

If your device is supported and you want the beta, enrol your Apple Account free at beta.apple.com for the public beta or developer.apple.com for the developer channel, then pick the release under Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates. Make an archived backup on a computer first — an iCloud backup taken on the beta cannot be restored onto the older version, so it is not a route back. Our backup guide covers the difference.

If your device has reached its last version, staying current on it is a supported position rather than a dead end. Apple keeps issuing security updates for a release line after it stops receiving features, so open Software Update and take whatever is offered. Our device pages set out where every model stands.
