iOS 26 Security Update

iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 fixes 36 vulnerabilities. Every fix, in Apple's words, with what it could have allowed.

What iOS 26 Fixes

iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, released September 15, 2025, fixes 36 vulnerabilities in 28 parts of the system, according to Apple's security advisory.

Apple does not say that any of them were exploited before the fix. That makes iOS 26 a routine security update: worth installing soon, not an emergency.

It has since been superseded: the newest security release for iOS 26 is iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, from October 26, 2026, which includes these fixes.

How to Install iOS 26

On the iPhone, open Settings → General → Software Update. If more than one update is offered, the one with the higher version number is the current release; the other is for people who want to stay on the previous major version.

Security fixes are cumulative: any later release for the same version includes these as well, so if you are already past iOS 26 there is nothing to do.
