Where the Sequoia beta stands today
The macOS 15 beta program — developer builds from June 10, 2024, public channel from July 15 — closed with Sequoia's September 2024 release, and its beta seeds are no longer served on any channel. But macOS plays by friendlier rules than iOS: while the beta builds themselves are gone, macOS 15 as a system remains fully, officially installable, because Apple distributes complete Sequoia installers to this day.
That distinction matters. On iPhone, a closed beta era means the version is locked away for newer devices. On Mac, any machine that was supported by Sequoia can clean-install the final 15.7.8 (build 24G806) right now — and Apple silicon Macs can go further still with virtualization.

1Run Sequoia on supported hardware
Capped Macs: System Settings > Software Update to 15.7.8. Clean installs: fetch Apple's full installer (softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.7.8) and run it or build a bootable USB.

UTM or another Virtualization-framework tool + a Sequoia installer/IPSW = disposable macOS 15 in a window, with snapshots. The safe playground option.

How the beta was run at the time — and what replaced it
Sequoia testers enrolled via Apple Account and flipped Beta Updates in System Settings > General > Software Update — many of them installing onto a separate APFS volume so the beta lived beside a stable system rather than replacing it. That dual-volume discipline remains our standing recommendation, now applied to the live macOS 27 Golden Gate beta.
Today's beta seeker follows the same two steps with a newer target: enroll free at beta.apple.com or developer.apple.com, then choose the macOS 27 channel. The Sequoia-era muscle memory transfers completely.
The Mac's exclusive trick: Sequoia in a virtual machine
Want to poke at macOS 15 without dedicating hardware? Apple silicon Macs can run Sequoia as a guest VM using free tools built on Apple's own Virtualization framework (UTM being the best-known). Feed the VM a Sequoia IPSW or installer, and you get a bootable, disposable macOS 15 in a window — snapshot it, break it, roll it back. It's the closest thing to a time machine any Apple platform offers, and it's fully legitimate.
Between full installers, separate APFS volumes and VMs, the Mac answers 'can I run the old version?' with an embarrassment of yeses — the exact opposite of the iPhone's signing wall.
What the Sequoia betas actually delivered
The cycle's stars — iPhone Mirroring, native window tiling, the Passwords app — all shipped and matured through the 15.x point releases; 15.7.8 carries their finished forms plus two years of security work. Macs capped at Sequoia (several 2018–2019 Intel models) should simply be on that build via Software Update.
Nothing of value hides in the beta seeds themselves. The finished Sequoia — installable, virtualizable, patched — is the version worth having.
