How to Install visionOS 26.6 (RC) on Apple Vision Pro

Shipping-grade software for the device that's hardest to restore — the sensible pre-release.

Current build

visionOS 26.6

Build number

23O770

Released

July 27, 2026
Release Candidate

For Apple Vision Pro, Release Candidates hit differently: this is the one Apple device where a botched pre-release can mean a service appointment, since home restores require the Developer Strap accessory. That makes the visionOS 26.6 RC — final-quality, fully tested — the pre-release tier that actually makes sense for most owners.

The install is standard modern Apple: enrolled account, Beta Updates channel, power connected, done.

What you'll need

Apple Vision Pro

Both generations. visionOS 26.6 is the current stable-line build for each.

Enrolled Apple Account

beta.apple.com covers it; RCs ship to both beta channels.

Battery on its charger

Never update Vision Pro on battery alone — a power interruption is the one real risk in the process.

Step-by-step

  1. 1Enroll and pick the channel

Enroll at beta.apple.com if needed, then in visionOS: Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > visionOS 26. This channel carries the RC.

  2. 2Dock and power

Set the headset down, battery pack connected to its charger. Start the update from Software Update and leave it untouched.

  3. 3Let it finish completely

visionOS updates flash more firmware than most Apple devices — the progress screen can sit still for stretches. It's working; interruption is the only failure mode worth fearing.

  4. 4Turn Beta Updates off after public release

When 26.6 ships publicly, disable the toggle. Your Vision Pro rejoins the ordinary update track carrying the identical build.

After installing

Persona, hand tracking and guest mode all behave as on the public release — this is that release, early. If you'd previously calibrated on a beta, a quick re-run of eye setup never hurts after any update.

Troubleshooting

Update not offered

Check the channel is visionOS 26 (not 27), and compare your build in Settings > General > About with our homepage — you may be current.

Progress bar seems frozen

Wait it out on power — visionOS flashes are long and uneven. Only a genuinely black, unresponsive screen after an hour warrants a forced restart.

Wi-Fi drops during download

The download resumes automatically. Only the final install phase needs uninterrupted power; network hiccups before that are harmless.

Frequently asked questions

Why recommend RC but warn against the 27 beta on Vision Pro?

Recovery asymmetry. iPhones restore at home in 20 minutes; Vision Pro needs a special accessory or Apple service. RC builds virtually never need recovery.

Do both Vision Pro models get the same build?

Yes — same version, same build string, same timing.

Can I switch to the visionOS 27 beta from here?

Any time: change the Beta Updates channel to visionOS 27. Just re-read the warnings on our visionOS 27 page first.
